River Ranch 2010
River Ranch Four couples took off on Friday June 11th for an adventurous weekend at the Westgate River Ranch Resort in Lake Whales. We were looking forward to an exciting but relaxing weekend at one of Florida’s truly western settings, with all the trimmings, and got even more than we expected. Just under a two hour drive & we were in another world. The rate for our group was $142 per couple per night and the rooms included a small kitchen, sink & frig. The price also included a B.B.Q. all you can eat dinner, a great Rodeo on Saturday night, and the best hay ride I’ve had there in all the years I’ve been going. It featured a singing cowboy with seven generation of living in the area, down a back road country we’ve never seen before. The country general store still has the best ice cream I have ever tasted, and I tried most the flavors each night (double scoops). Breakfasts, also included in the price, was an extensive buffet along with a chef to make the omelet of your choice. You could not beat the deal. The choice of events and attractions at the ranch are extensive, from boating, fishing, golf, to name just a few, along with a large inviting pool, but my favorite thing at the ranch is and always will be the petting zoo. I spend a good deal of time there twice a day, petting and feeding the horses and an assortment of other farm animals. There is a large saloon featuring live music, a country western singer, and line dancing (if you check the photos, I’m the only one looking down at my feet). Never got it, never will, but I still try. It’s part of my left-right direction problem. Sitting on the deck outside the saloon on rocking chairs was hard work, but worth the effort. It was our place to gather & make our plans. The worst part of the trip was the millions and millions of love bugs which are only around two to three weeks a year. Can I pick dates or what???? This was our third visit to River Ranch, and I hope you will join us next time around. Enjoy the photos.
