WOW!!! How do you describe perfection??? I don’t know, but I think we came pretty close to it on this long weekend.

The trip to Lovers Key was sunny with light traffic all the way to Mel’s Diner where we stopped for lunch. Two things about Mel’s are they love car clubs, and hungry people. I kept meaning to return for either breakfast, lunch or dinner, but just ran out of time.

A few members arrived the day before and were waiting for us poolside. It didn’t take long after check-in before we suited up and plunged into the pool to start on our tans.

Two couples arranged to fly into Fort Meyers to meet us for the weekend. The Merrits came from New York, and the Studavents came from New Orleans. In addition, two couples, Jess & Sandy and Ev & Kitty, from the S. W. Miata Club, to spend part of the weekend and join in our fun games. These are dedicated Miata folks, who really appreciate our club.

Friday night’s dinner was at Doc Fords Restaurant located under the Ft. Meyers Bridge. Doc Ford is a character in a series of books written by one of the owners of the restaurant. The staff, including the chef all came by to make us feel welcome, and strove to have every part of our dining experience a success. The atmosphere, food, and service were excellent. This place is a keeper to return to on our next trip.

Saturday morning we were treated to breakfast of fresh fruits, huge muffins, bagels and cream cheese, a waffle machine with all the fixings for us (brought in special for the weekend in honor of our club).

Pool, spa, shelling, shopping, and sightseeing filled our days, and the time went by all too quickly.

Saturday evening, for me was the culmination of three month of planning, testing, researching, and experimenting, on games of all kinds. I finally settled on six after working with Turbo testing them out. Who said he’s not a good sport? I now owe him big time. I envisioned turning the breakfast/meeting room into a room for the games and our wine and cheese party. If I had known that the first verbal game we played was going to be so much fun, I might have stopped there. We all laughed so hard until it hurt. It was a great way to start the evening’s events. I did learn something about our members I never knew before. Saying they are competitive is definitely an understatement. They held nothing back. I have to thank Lovers Key Resort, Flippers Restaurant, and Grampas Restaurant, for their very generous gift donations.

Many of us took side trips to a few of the local flea markets, both large and small. Turbo is grateful that between our luggage and all the game supplies this year, there was no way I could have fit another thing in our Miata.

Some of us took rides to the islands of Sanibel and Captiva for sightseeing, shopping, and shelling. The $6.00 toll over the bridge is steep, but once every few years it is worth it. The areas seemed to have fully recovered after too many of our hurricanes destroyed so much.

The management at Lovers Key Resort offered a forth night free to our members for all the years of our clubs loyal dedication. Most couples were able to take advantage of the offer and spent five days of sun and fun in beautiful Ft. Meyers Beach. We all appreciate their very generous gift.

Those of you who know me, know I could go on and on, so I’ll spare you, and instead suggest you check out all of the wonderful and expressive photos which can explain what the weekend was about much better than I ever could.

To all the members who took time out of their busy life’s to join us this weekend, I would like to thank them for their loyal support of our club. I really get as much pleasure in the planning as you do in participating. For those who could not make it this year, try harder next year, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
