Flamingo Gardens 2008
FLAMINGO GARDENS 2008
On Sunday, April 28th our club members were treated to the greatest day at FLAMINGO GARDENS in Davie. Ron & Steve worked for months in order to set up a private tour just for the Miata Club. I’ve been to the Gardens many times in years past, but never was I so impressed by the knowledge and expertise of our personal guide for the day. We learned firsthand information not normally available to the general public. FLAMINGO GARDENS is set on 60 acres of lush botanical gardens, featuring rare exotic and native plants. The wildlife sanctuary hosted alligators (we watched them mating) otters, bobcats, flamingos, tortoises, and over 70 species of birds. The peacocks were also very amours as they displayed their plumage (it is their mating season also) for all to admire. The wildlife encounter show gave us new respect for our feather friends. Our tram tour was a scenic 25-minute ride through the citrus groves, with over 60 types of citrus, wetlands, and the Wray Botanical gardens. The cameras were working overtime and there was never a moment that was not picture perfect. I want to personally thank the extremely generous Miata club members who donated to help build a new otter habitat, as well as to the wildlife encounter. I can’t wait to revisit the Gardens in a year or two to see the changes we helped make possible. Ron & Steve, you are both wonderful. Thanks for being the wonderful folks you are.
