Calder Race Track 2008
Calder Race Track 2008
It was a picture perfect day to be outdoors enjoying the green lush manicured grounds at the Calder Racetrack. The fifth race had been named after our club, appeared in the program, and was announced over the loud speaker. When the time came for our race, we were escorted to the finish line to see close up, and first hand the excitement and thrill of it all. The size and power of each horse was amazing, and so was the size of the jockeys. All of my cheering and yelling did not help my horse win our race. All my cheering and yelling did not help any of my days’ selection win any of the horses I chose. It also did not dampen my spirits. Miatas’ are one of our favorite things in life, but eating comes a close second. The lavish buffet in the upstairs clubhouse was fresh, tasty and plentiful, and the waiters extremely attentive. As we were enjoying our meal, while watching the races from our seats, there were people who explained the betting system to those who needed advise. They were happy to take our money to place our bets, and for those who were lucky enough to choose wisely, they delivered the winnings. We had a self guided tour of the stables, and watched the magnificent horses get ready for the next race. It gave us a chance to choose our choice by something other than a cute name. It still did not help me pick a winner. The big thrill for me was being escorted to the winner’s circle of our named race to present the owner and jockey of the first place horse with their trophies. I hope our members enjoyed the day enough (from the photos it appears so) to return again next season, and for those members who could not attend, try to make a point to join in. |
